Watermelon

We made some paper plate watermelons the other day. First I cut some paper plates in half and had the kids paint the inside of their plates red. Then I realized we were out of green paint, so I mixed blue and yellow and came up with this baby poop green. The kids painted the outer edge of their plates with the baby poop green and finally used their fingers to dab on black seeds.

Christmas!

I love Christmas! It's my favorite holiday and my favorite time of the year. Unfortunately the Christmas season is so short, when it's over I wish I had had time to do more with the kids. I have a whole bunch of crafts I want to get to, and this was our first one. We made wreaths by cutting out the center of paper plates and painting the plates green. Then the kids made berries with their finger prints, and finally glued on a pretty bow.

Here is a turtle that has made his way to the top of the bulletin board. His shell is a paper plate sponge painted with yellow and blue paint. We were mixing yellow and blue to make green after my three year old friend learned to mix red and yellow to make orange at school. We also sprinkled on glitter for some extra pizazz. His head, legs, and tail are made from construction paper, and of course the best part is the cool blue google eyes.

Another pumpkin?

"What" you say, "another paper plate pumpkin?" The kids wanted to paint and I wasn't feeling very creative. Yeah, it happens. Even the craftiest crafters, can't be crafty all the time.

Pumpkin Time

This is an easy little pumpkin that was made from construction paper and a paper plate. I cut out a bunch of orange squares and had the little bambino glue them all over the plate. Then I cut out a curly q for a leaf and a brown rectangle for the stem and had him glue those on too.

Hand Print Fish

This is a cute little hand print fish we made a while ago. The fish bowl is just a paper plate cut in half. The fish is a hand print with a google eye. Notice the HUGE google eye. Thanks mom!

Fall Wreath

This is a really easy fall craft. (I know, more plates) Every year, they sell bags of fake leaves at the dollar store and craft stores. Last year, we used some to make wreaths. You just cut out the center of a paper plate, give the kids a pile of leaves and some Elmer's glue and let em have at it. Then you can punch a hole in the plate and attach a piece of string to hang it up.

Chicks

These are some cute little chicks we made with paper plates. (I told you I like paper plates) The kids painted the plates yellow and glued on the google eyes, beak, and feather. The beaks were made from a piece of paper. Just fold it in half, cut out a triangle, and unfold. We didn't have any orange construction paper at the time, so we had to use white paper and color it orange. The legs were made from pipe cleaners. I twisted them around my finger to give them some curl and taped them onto the plates. These are a great Easter or spring craft.

Paper Plate Lions

One of my favorite things to use for crafts is paper plates. They are cheap, and I almost always have a stack in my cupboard. These are some lions I made with the kids from my previous job. We cut strips (or I cut for the little guys) all around the outside of the plate for the mane. They painted them with crayola washable paints and used some dollar store puff balls for the eyes and nose. Pipe cleaners were used for the mouth, whiskers, and handles. I added a dab of paint to the eyes for eye balls and helped shape the mouths. The handles were just something the kids wanted to add so they could hold them up in front of their faces like masks. If I'd known they wanted to make masks, I would have cut out eye holes. Either way, they turned out pretty cute and the kids had fun getting messy with paint and glue. Everything used was stuff we had sitting around the house. (it's always good to have a stocked craft box) So there you have it......paper plate lions. Have fun.
